A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to the carrying of a handgun by certain persons between 18 |
|
|
and 21 years of age. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 46.15, Penal Code, is amended by adding |
|
|
Subsection (s) to read as follows: |
|
|
(s) The provisions of Section 46.02(a) prohibiting the |
|
|
carrying of a handgun by a person younger than 21 years of age do not |
|
|
apply to a person who is 18 years of age or older and has |
|
|
successfully completed: |
|
|
(1) a handgun proficiency course under Section |
|
|
411.188(a), Government Code; and |
|
|
(2) a hunter education course under Section 62.014, |
|
|
Parks and Wildlife Code. |
|
|
SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies only |
|
|
to an offense committed on or after the effective date of this |
|
|
Act. An offense committed before the effective date of this Act is |
|
|
governed by the law in effect on the date the offense was committed, |
|
|
and the former law is continued in effect for that purpose. For |
|
|
purposes of this section, an offense was committed before the |
|
|
effective date of this Act if any element of the offense occurred |
|
|
before that date. |
|
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
