R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The H-E-B chain of grocery stores is marking a |
|
|
significant milestone in 2015 with the celebration of its 110th |
|
|
anniversary, and this occasion provides a fitting opportunity to |
|
|
recognize the company's contributions to Corpus Christi and other |
|
|
cities in Texas; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Founded in Kerrville in 1905, H-E-B began expanding |
|
|
its operations throughout the 1920s, and Corpus Christi was the |
|
|
largest city to have an H-E-B store when the company opened its |
|
|
first location there in 1931; today, the city is home to 10 stores, |
|
|
including two H-E-B Plus facilities; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A good corporate citizen in the communities it |
|
|
serves, H-E-B supports a variety of public and charitable programs; |
|
|
last year, the company donated approximately 29 million pounds of |
|
|
food and nonperishable items to food banks in Texas and Mexico; |
|
|
furthermore, the H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards program gives |
|
|
more than $740,000 annually to deserving educators and school |
|
|
districts; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, H-E-B has received the Texas Governor's Award for |
|
|
Environmental Excellence three times in recognition of |
|
|
company-wide efforts to promote conservation and efficiency; in |
|
|
2010, Progressive Grocer magazine named H-E-B the Retailer of the |
|
|
Year for its myriad achievements in the industry and for its |
|
|
significant community involvement; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Businesses that give back to the community and |
|
|
contribute to the local economy are important components of a |
|
|
prosperous future, and H-E-B is deserving of recognition for the |
|
|
positive role it plays in Corpus Christi and throughout the Lone |
|
|
Star State; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby honor the H-E-B chain of grocery stores for its |
|
|
contributions to the Corpus Christi area and extend to the company |
|
|
and its employees sincere best wishes for a memorable 110th |
|
|
anniversary celebration; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for H-E-B as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
|
House of Representatives. |
