        |  | A BILL TO BE ENTITLED | 
      
        |  | AN ACT | 
      
        |  | relating to certain licenses issued to retired judicial officers; | 
      
        |  | amending the requirements for a license. | 
      
        |  | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | 
      
        |  | SECTION 1.  Sec. 411.201, Government Code, is amended as | 
      
        |  | follows: | 
      
        |  | Sec. 411.201.  ACTIVE AND RETIRED JUDICIAL OFFICERS.  (a)  In | 
      
        |  | this section: | 
      
        |  | (1)  "Active judicial officer" means: | 
      
        |  | (A)  a person serving as a judge or justice of the | 
      
        |  | supreme court, the court of criminal appeals, a court of appeals, a | 
      
        |  | district court, a criminal district court, a constitutional county | 
      
        |  | court, a statutory county court, a justice court, or a municipal | 
      
        |  | court; | 
      
        |  | (B)  a federal judge who is a resident of this | 
      
        |  | state; or | 
      
        |  | (C)  a person appointed and serving as an | 
      
        |  | associate judge under Chapter 201, Family Code. | 
      
        |  | (2)  "Retired judicial officer" means: | 
      
        |  | (A)  a special judge appointed under Section | 
      
        |  | 26.023 or 26.024; or | 
      
        |  | (B)  a senior judge designated under Section | 
      
        |  | 75.001 or a judicial officer as designated or defined by Section | 
      
        |  | 75.001, 831.001, or 836.001; or | 
      
        |  | (C)  a retired federal judge, who is a resident of | 
      
        |  | this state. | 
      
        |  | (C-1)  "Federal judge" means: | 
      
        |  | (1)  a judge of a United States court of | 
      
        |  | appeals; | 
      
        |  | (2)  a judge of a United States district | 
      
        |  | court; | 
      
        |  | (3)  a judge of a United States bankruptcy | 
      
        |  | court; or | 
      
        |  | (4)  a magistrate judge of a United States | 
      
        |  | district court. | 
      
        |  | SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | 
      
        |  | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | 
      
        |  | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution.  If this | 
      
        |  | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | 
      
        |  | Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
