  1  1    Section 1.  NEW SECTION.  724.32  Lost or stolen firearms ==
  1  2 reporting == penalty.
  1  3    1.  The owner of a firearm shall report a lost or stolen
  1  4 firearm to the local law enforcement agency with jurisdiction
  1  5 over the place where the firearm is believed to have been lost
  1  6 or stolen within forty=eight hours of discovering that the
  1  7 firearm has been lost or stolen.
  1  8    2.  A person who violates this section commits a simple
  1  9 misdemeanor punishable as a scheduled violation pursuant to
  1 10 section 805.8C, subsection 12.
  1 11    Sec. 2.  Section 805.8C, Code 2018, is amended by adding the
  1 12 following new subsection:
  1 13    NEW SUBSECTION.  12.  Lost or stolen firearms.  For
  1 14 violations of section 724.32, the scheduled fine is fifty
  1 15 dollars.
  1 16                           EXPLANATION
  1 17 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with
  1 18 the explanation's substance by the members of the general assembly.
  1 19    This bill relates to a lost or stolen firearm.  The bill
  1 20 requires the owner of a firearm to report a lost or stolen
  1 21 firearm to the local law enforcement agency with jurisdiction
  1 22 over the place where the firearm is believed to have been lost
  1 23 or stolen within 48 hours of discovering that the firearm has
  1 24 been lost or stolen.
  1 25    A person who violates the bill commits a simple misdemeanor
  1 26 punishable with a scheduled fine in the amount of $50.
